Identity Project List (No longer maintained)

Goals

The goal of this document is to:

1. identity different identity projects in Ethereum ecosystem (EVM Compatible)
2. create a framework to group them/analyse them
3. compare the pros/cons of each of them. Create categories for the pros/cons like usability, trust assumptions, etc.
4. find gaps in the ecosystem and build strategies with this information on how PSE approaches the identity space in the future

Intro

In essence, there are 4 types of identity projects using the model below:

• Identity issuers: can issue new identities that one entity controls, serves like a proxy pseudonymous.
• Attestations / Credential issuers: issue attestations/credentials/attributes that basically are facts about identities.
• Aggregators: aggregate different identities or credentials
• Privacy layers: add a privacy layer to identities or credentials

Research Questions:

• Which other projects in the ecosystem (EVM compatible) exist who fall in this model?
• Are there other categories?
• What are their key use cases? Their target users and scenarios?
• What are their overall architectures?
• Do we see a pattern in architectures / tradeoffs?
