Overview

The Devcon and MACI teams hosted a quadratic voting round during Devcon 7 in Bangkok. This round aimed to allocate funds to valuable informational dashboards in the Ethereum ecosystem.

Despite facing several challenges the round was ultimately deemed a success, achieving its primary objectives without encountering any major show-stopping issues. These challenges, such as last-minute changes, mobile optimization issues, and user confusion over the quadratic voting process, ultimately provided clear opportunities for enhancement in future rounds. The retrospective identified key areas for improvement, including earlier scope definition, more comprehensive testing, and refined user experience design, setting the stage for a more successful round in the future.

Project application criteria

The round focused exclusively on educational Ethereum dashboard projects. The Devcon team identified and invited 17 dashboard projects to participate. This departed from the usual open application process most quadratic rounds use which asks qualifying projects to apply and be vetted. This approach reduced much of the pre-event timeline spent on the open application process, but presented additional challenges in verifying project ownership and obtaining consent for inclusion.

Gatekeeping mechanism

Participation was gated through Devcon Zupass tickets, allowing all Devcon attendees and speakers to vote.

Engagement

The Devcon team reached out to projects directly in order to independently verify them. The round was announced during the open ceremony, and the MACI team staffed an impact booth answering questions for all four days of the event. Additionally, there was a topic channel in the official Devcon Telegram group dedicated to round support.
